HeroQuest gives the heroes lots control over the pace of the game. Therefore, when Zargon gets to move and attack with monsters, he or she should concentrate attacks to slay a hero as quickly as possible.

One of the very few flaws Seth and I have with HeroQuest lies with the wizard and player spell casting. The "one and done" card-based spell system prompts a wizard to save spells and play very conservatively. Heath explains a better way to play the wizard in this video.

Incantris is a game of magical combat set in the Kingdom of Aldramere. Each player controls a team of three wizards, each with unique spells and abilities. Rain down fiery meteors with the Sorceress, call upon the bear spirit to unleash destruction with the Shaman, strike from afar with the Shadow Weaver, or pummel foes with the Druid’s tempest. Decide how best to use these abilities to defeat the other players and become the champions Aldramere.

Incantris is a fast-paced and thought provoking game that pairs strategy with a beautiful gaming environment. Use the modular board and 3D terrain to create a different battlefield for every game. The game also features 27 different spells and abilities ensuring that each game of Incantris will be a unique experience. Setup is quick with each player selecting a team of three wizards optimized for a particular play style.

The wizards wield magic from the Spirit, Elemental, and Astral realms. The spellcasting and warding system is intuitive and exciting. To emerge victorious, players will have to outmaneuver their opponents, use their wizards’ strengths, and take advantage of the opposing teams’ weaknesses.

To be most effective, the players need to operate according to a strategy. In a nutshell, the heroes need to throw as many attack dice at the monsters in a round as possible to prevent the monsters from throwing dice against them on Zargon's turn. Dead monsters can't fight back! Heath goes into more detail here.

The sorcerers and sorceresses are innately connected to the raw elemental powers of the universe, giving them the ability to produce a great variety of magical effects. They all be very versatile and valuable members of your wizard teams. Also, their area-of-effect spell is called "Blaze" not "Inferno". Inferno now has a different effect.

We played a test game of Frostgrave to learn the rules and give it a try before our campaign begins. We wanted to report back with our initial thoughts. Overall, we enjoyed it. We are looking forward to adjusting our war bands based on the knowledge we gained in the test game before the first game in the campaign begins.
